Underground Springhouse, a band that originally formed at the University of Georgia eight years ago, blends southern rock with reggae elements, creating a sound that's bouncy yet fresh. Their music carries the southern roots that many Athens jam bands start with, while also finding their own unique lane. I was able to see Springhouse for the first (and so far only) time, almost 2 years ago during a memorable night at the grand ole Georgia Theater. Here's some stats on that show:

Date: August 22nd, 2024

Venue: Georgia Theatre

Headliner: Pigeons Playing Ping Pong - Day in Time Tour

Opening Set at the Georgia Theater - 8/22/24

After a minor accident in which I exploded my toe, I headed over to the Georgia Theatre with my good friend Andrew, my brother-in-law Cameron, and my roommate Bentley to catch Underground Springhouse opening for Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. If you've never seen USH live, you're missing out on one of the most fun and easygoing experiences in the Southeast jam scene.

Opening at the Georgia Theatre is no small task. The venue has hosted countless legendary acts over the years, and it can be tough to win over a crowd that's waiting for the headliner. USH didn't seem phased at all. Playing in their city of origin, they came out firing on all cylinders and immediately got the room moving. Some of their originals like "Float the Time Away" and "Mashed Potatoes" got the crowd moving!

Over halfway into the set, the ever familar chords to Bob Marley's "Could You Be Loved" snuck in. When the whole band came in together, Springhouse's reggae style shined. Andrew and I couldn't help but raise our drinks to each other and get lost in the groove.

Closing out their opening set with arguably their most popular song "Joyfell" set the stage for the rest of the night and left nothing but excitement for Scrambled Greg and Pigeons Playing Ping Pong.

This show remains one near and dear to my heart as I reguarly still bring the memory up to Andrew to this day. Springhouse consistently plays shows in the South and specifically in Atlanta. Go catch them if you're around!
